The contest, which closed on 23 May 2016, invited participants to come up with some unconventional furniture, showcasing innovation in form, material or function. The projects were judged by a committee headed up by Giulio Cappellini and comprising, amongst others, Massimo Zanatta, Director of the Istituto Marangoni School of Design, Cristina Morozzi, Director of Education at the Milan School of Design and Product Design lecturer Sergio Nava. The panel assessed the designs on the basis of three key parameters: the proposal’s consistency, both from an aesthetic and a functional point of view, with the theme of the contest, the level of innovation and the effectiveness of the product’s communication plan. The winning design, “Sbircio”, which is Italian for “a peek”, comprises of a series of stackable boxes, which can also be used individual, made of coloured plastic, with a characteristic angular deformation, through which it is possible to “peek” at the contents.
